For several years BIS Industrial Services has been involved in the inspection and devlopment of repair schemes for the main precast concrete structures that support the mercury cells in three chlorine production facilities.
Minimising plant downtime is crucial in ongoing work of this nature. To this end, we take a central role alongside senior plant management personnel at steering group level to establish repair strategies that enable work in particularly hazardous live plant conditions without interrupting operational activities.
Although the initial problem is structural, the solution requires multi-disciplinary engineering including re-routing of pipes and cables and the relocation of instruments and switchgear, all of which must be achieved with minimal loss of production.
Through innovative design, repair work now keeps pace with deterioration and, in recognition of the efforts made, BIS-IS design team was presented with a Gold Award by the customer for outstanding achievement in business improvement.
