This Client was forced to relocate their chemicals storage and distribution facility at short notice as a result of compulsory purchase to make way for a new road. The new site was required to accommodate office and warehousing space as well as chemical storage, blending and the state of the art tanker and container loading faciities. Since a number of locations, with varying business and commercial options, were under consideration, a flexible approach to front end development was required.
THE SCOPE OF THE CONTRACT
BIS Industrial Services began by undertaking a feasibility study to determine the most efficient and ergonomic method of meeting the storage and delivery requirements within a three acre site. Exact dimensions were determined by the site geography and a functional AutoPlant 3D model representation of the site was required within three days for presentation to the developer and local authorities.
Our engineers worked with piping and civil designers to determine the main process requirements, develop a more detailed plant and infrastructure layout, and prepare a sanction grade estimate and project schedule, whilst still allowing the Client the flexibility to optioneer.
THE SCALE OF THE PROJECT
The total installed cost for the project will be around £2.9M, arrived at by optioneering, and will include 100 main plant items and 3000 metres of pipe. During the early stage of the project, BIS-IS design team completed the preparation of all process flow diagrams, preliminary plant layouts, process and equipment schedules, outline drainage design and the specification of specialist chemical resistant surface finishes and coatings.
BIS-IS in-house expertise and experience of front-end site layouts and the latest AutoPlant 3D CAD design tools enabled the preparation of a functional visualisation of the proposed site for presentation to developers and local authorities within a tight time frame. It also allowed numerous changes to the scope to be incorporated during the early stages.
We also provided the Client with, and co-ordinated, a full complement of specialist engineering design services from in-house resources, including process, mechanical, plant design, civil and structural, as well as the necessary project and estimating support.
