BIS Industrial Services achieve 1 million man-hours without LTI at two Innospec Sites
With a number of significant heath and safety milestones accumulated over recent months, BIS Industrial Services can now boast another achievement in health and safety. This achievement was for work undertaken at the Innospec Widnes and Elsmere Port sites reaching one million man-hours without a lost time injury.
The attainment of one million man-hours without a Lost Time Injury (LTI) is a representation of the effective partnership between BIS-IS and Innospec. Both companies have worked together in perfect synergy to ensure that health and safety is a vital component in site culture. BIS-IS Management received full support and collaboration when implementing HSEQ policies on the Innospec site and developed a number of innovations including:
- Personal Awareness Safety Task Assessment Card (PASTA) used for reporting health and safety incidents.
- The ‘Man Bag’ a tool implemented to enable vital documents to be kept on site.
- Near Miss Reporting System, a procedure implemented to enable staff to report near-miss accidents whilst working.
All innovations were welcomed and praised by the client and have played an integral part in achieving this milestone.
Speaking about this great achievement, BIS-IS Project Manager Gary Caldwell commented, “We are only as effective as our on site workforce who have embraced the importance of health and safety in their day-to-day activities and enabled us to ensure that no stone is un-turned when it comes to the safety of our people.”
The health and safety culture of both Innospec Widnes and Elsmere Port is constantly evolving. BIS-IS on site management are currently developing supervisor training schemes to ensure continues improvement of HSEQ and production knowledge. To date, seven on site supervisors have taken part in the training programme.
Gary later added, “Even though we have achieved this milestone we must not become complacent and take our eye off the ball as this achievement is so hard to get and yet so easy to loose.”
