BIS Industrial Services Fawley Site Celebrates a year without A Worse Than First Aid Injury.
The BIS Industrial Services Fawley site team recently celebrated an entire year without a worse than first aid injury. To celebrate this achievement two presentation ceremonies were held at the ExxonMobil Fawley site, for the Chemical and Refinery components that BIS-IS are involved with, all BIS-IS employees based at Fawley were invited to attend.
The team celebrated 300,000 man-hours without a worse than first aid incident for the year of 2010. The presentations were conducted by Terry Whitby, BIS-IS Construction Manager and Geoff Cocking, BIS-IS Construction Manager.
A vital component to achieving the year without a worse than first aid injury is the ‘Brothers Keeper Culture’ a Bilfinger Berger initiative that enforces the concept of looking after ones fellow worker. In 2011 the Brothers Keeper culture is being embraced under the “I am SAM” brand - Support A Mate.
Although all BIS-IS employees have adopted the Brothers keeper culture into their working lives there were some employees who played a bigger part in supporting the concept with their colleagues on site. The employees in question were awarded gift vouchers for mentoring new starters into the business, a vital component of ensuring the BIS-IS culture on site is uniformly adopted. Vouchers were presented by Simon Hicks and Dave Nickerson to Neil Yates, Kevin Wyeth, Wayne Claire, Ray Lees, T Lewis, Alun Jones, Brian Guy, Operatives. Supervisors Tom Urbaniak and Mark Gibby were also awarded for their efforts.
In addition to the awards presented by BIS-IS to our own employees, ExxonMobil also presented the entire BIS-IS organisation with an award to mark the achievement. Aart –Jan Vogel ExxonMobil Chemicals UK APM Manager commented, “BIS-IS has had a very good first year considering the high work load. We are extremely pleased that the first year has been a safe year and we look forward to many more. ON OUR WAY TO “NOBODY GETS HURT” Derek Fraser, ExxonMobil Site Manager and Chris Webb ExxonMobil Refinery HSEQ Manager later presented BIS-IS with an engraved crystal plate and Derek Fraser commented: “There have been a number of positive occurrences for ExxonMobil in 2010 and BIS-IS’s performance has been essential for the success of the site. The ‘Brother’s keeper culture’ being a key component. Today we are celebrating that all of our staff went home safely and did the job properly, we must remember that the emphasis is not on safety STATS but the safety itself.”
Hugh Campbell later added, “The achievement is something to be very proud of and it’s all down to the fantastic delivery of safety from the field supervision and workforce” Steve Jannaway (Fawley HSEQ Advisor) also commented. “This is a massive achievement considering the work we have carried out, especially around lifting. We must now ensure that we improve for 2011 and maintain that “NOBODY GETS HURT” is possible.”
Chris Webb, ExxonMobil SHE Manager concluded the ceremonies stating. “This is a great start which we now need to build on. The next step is to eliminate the lower level injuries which can be avoided. This is a good milestone on a journey not an endpoint.” There are a number of health and safety campaigns being introduced for 2011 it remains the responsibility of the whole team to work together to ensure that zero injuries are achieved.
