BIS-IS achieve safest 12 months ever

The 12 months ending July 2011 have been the safest ever for BIS-IS. Not only did we achieve a full year without a lost time injury (LTI), we also completed an additional three million LTI-free manhours. This builds on our strong health and safety record, for which we received the RosPA Order of Distinction earlier this year.

The achievement is particularly significant given the hazardous environments our staff work in on a daily basis. With teams working on everything from asbestos removal to electricity pylon maintenance, it’s vital that people understand exactly how to manage a wide range of risks and that they put their knowledge into practice consistently.

To this end, we foster a company culture around the four components of ACT.

These are:

  • ACT together

  • ACT creatively

  • ACT confidently

  • ACT smartly

The news shows that people across the company have taken these messages on board and are integrating them fully into both routine activities and new challenges.

Managing Director, Duncan Hall, commented: “We are congratulating all 1699 employees with a celebratory kit bag in recognition of their hard work and commitment to health and safety.  Well done to everyone in BIS Industrial Services.”

The second key factor in our success is the attention we give to developing strong relationships with customers. This is important both on the ground and at management level. As a result, teams on site work together effectively and support each other to get the job done safely.

Not content to rest on its laurels, BIS-IS is now planning further health and safety innovations. These include a new ’Near Miss’ reporting system plus improvements to on-site document storage that will make it easier and quicker to access vital details.

Keen to recognise our commitment to health and safety, customers have been quick to respond to news of the award. Comments include:

Art Jan Vogel, UK APM Manager, Exxon Mobil:  “Congratulations! This is an important milestone on the way to Nobody gets hurt!”

Ed Glogiewicz, Safety Advisor , Conoco Phillips: “Thanks to BIS-IS  for their contribution to an injury-free 65 day Train 1 Major Outage2 at the Immingham Combined Heat and Power . Plant (ICHP).

Alan Hardy, Syngenta: “An excellent result. Well done to your whole team, and in particular, those working with us here at Syngenta. All the best as you target the next milestone.”

Phil Pyman Site Manager, LyondellBasell Carrington and Milton Keynes: “On behalf of Basell Polyolefins UK Ltd, please accept my congratulations on this significant achievement. We have shared the news of this outstanding performance with the global LyondellBasell HSE community. Well done to you all!”
