BIS Industrial Services Presents CIA Excellence In Engineering Award to Syngenta, Huddersfield
BIS Industrial Services has recently sponsored the Excellent in Engineering Award at this year’s Chemical Industry Awards held at St Georges Hall, Liverpool.
The Award recognizes the contribution of engineering excellence in the chemical industry towards improved business performance. It also rewards innovation and delivery of engineering within chemical operator organization or from suppliers who provide outsourced services. The short listed companies for the Award were: ABB Engineering Services, Billingham; Haden Freeman Group, Denton; Ineos Manufacturing Scotland Limited, Grangemouth; and Syngenta Huddersfield.
After a hard fought battle, the judges settled on making the Award to Syngenta, Huddersfield for their entry entitled “Partnering Our Way to Success”, which focused on the one team approach that has been built up between Syngenta departments, and their external engineering contractor organisations. The submission covered a number of key areas of work that have been delivered across the Huddersfield site including;
- Building & Developing the “one team” approach between Engineering and Production
- Shift Reliability Teams’ strong focus on condition monitoring and the prevention of equipment failures through early diagnosis of potential problem
- Introduction and selective use of value adding technical Reliability Engineering tools and techniques such as RCA & RCM to identify and solve longer term issues
- The use of alternative access methods reducing the number of scaffolds erected
- Improved pump reliability
- Improvements in the interface between the Design and Construction teams leading to enhanced efficiency in project delivery
- Continuous Improvement in the CHP leading to savings in the amount of gas burnt
- Strong focus on Business Process Maps and IS developments to help identify issues and lock in solution
