The Overhaul Features
BIS Industrial Services has successfully completed a full Turnaround project, (TAR) on the BP CATS (Central Area Transmission System) Teesside site. The TAR commenced with maintenance of Train One, (an on-site gas processing system), on 12th May. This was followed by maintenance on Train Two on 12th June; the TAR was later completed on 5th July, on time and with no recordable injuries.
This TAR was part of our ongoing maintenance contract on BP’s Onshore EMM Contract for CATS. The team of up to 45 employees with a range of specialist skills were managed by Richard Regis, (BIS-IS Delivery Manager). Working as part of a fully integrated customer/ contractor workforce the team is tasked to carry out general process and maintenance activities as stated in the TAR schedule.
Due to configuration of the plant, there were a number of specific safety considerations that the team had to address, including vessel entry and the provision of specialist welding habitats to ensure welding activities could be carried out safely with hydrocarbons present.
The schedule also included:
- Modifications to the Low Temperature Separator
- Overhead Compressor Phase 1 Tie-ins
- Completion of the Phase 1 PFP scope to 5 vessel skirts
- WSE (Written Scheme of Examination) Inspections and repairs. This involved the removal of insulation, inspection by third party and re-instatement. All the insulation activities had to be completed prior to the line becoming live because of process operating conditions.
- Vessel entry to BORN heaters for refractory inspections and completion of remedial works as identified through the inspections.
Project Manager Richard Regis commented. “The TAR has strengthened BP and BIS-IS’s relationship. The team worked closely on the planning and execution of the TAR to ensure all operations were completed safely and within the allotted time scale. BP has full confidence in our ability to plan and execute work during shutdown periods.”
East Coast General Manger, John Hanson also commented. “I am really pleased that the TAR was a success. BP is an extremely valued customer and the team has worked hard to ensure that all targets were met and all obstacles overcome.”
